The Best Men's Grooming Products-Cosmetics, Male Skin Care and Fragrances

Updated on August 25, 2011

Men and Cosmetics

There was a time not so long ago when men's grooming involved soap and water, real men didn't use cosmetics and certainly wouldn't admit it if they did.

Now in the 21st century; times have changed, men do care about their appearance, are not afraid to admit it and spend millions of $$$ each year on personal grooming.

My interest in the men's grooming industry stem's from a paper I was writing about modern man, identity and social construction. The beauty salon was a place of mystery for most men, today beauty rooms and private clinics are now just as popular with men as with women.

What I have learned is that the male macho image of the 70's and 80's has been replaced with vanity and self promotion, this new identity was largely created and influenced by the media, fashion, music, sport and film industries.

Today's men are not afraid to openly promote the use of grooming products, emulation of hero's is no longer a taboo; it is a full time occupation. Superstars of sport and screen actively endorse a whole host of personal products, in fact some even have their own ranges of cosmetics and fragrances.

Below I have listed some of the more popular ranges available to men, their uses and benefits.

Fragrance for Men

Perfume for men, these words just don't sound right. Fortunately the makers of men's fragrances recognise this and use the following names to describe their products:

  • Cologne
  • Eau de Toilette
  • Eau de Parfum

Some of the biggest names in fashion and design have capitalised on this new market and all launched their ranges of men's fragrances:

  • Armani
  • Dolce & Gabbanna
  • Halston
  • Diesel
  • Bvlgari

Prices range from less than $10 to hundreds of $'s for designer sets, the important thing is that there is something for every one and every budget.

Skin Care for Men

As I mentioned earlier; skin care for men involved splashing cold water on their face and of a weekend or on special occasions soap would be introduced.

The modern man is spoilt for choice, looking after their skin has become a daily ritual with a suitable product for all parts of the body.

  • Face
  • Body
  • Eyes
  • Lips
  • Feet
  • Hands and Nails

The cosmetic industry is a well oiled machine worth billions of dollars, never adverse to creating the easiest way to look young or health in a bottle the following big cosmetic players have all launched ranges specifically for men:

  • Nivea
  • Neutrogena
  • L'Oreal
  • Calvin Clein
  • Clinique
  • Jean Paul Gaultier

All in all there is no part of a man's body that can't be pampered.

Hair Care for Men

Hair is a big issue for men, one of our biggest problems in life is keeping the hair we have got.

Being a baldy myself, hair care doesn't take much time but for some it's an obsession. You are able to buy virtually every conceivable solution to your "bad hair day" and you can also pay handsomely for the pleasure.

  • Hair Care
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Gel
  • Cream
  • Fudge
  • Regrowth
  • Thinning Hair Creme
  • Hair Dye
  • Hair Thickener
  • Hair Removal
  • Hair Colours

Whatever your style, colour or condition; you can find a hair care product to suit your needs, there are 1000's in the range available from Amazon; for the full offering click below:

Bath and Body Care for Men

If you have got this far in the article you may have noticed a slight tone of cynicism in my writing, it is not intentional rather it is born out of disbelief at the range of products available to men.

Having a bath for me involves getting in hot water; laying there for a while; dunking my head to wash my hair then waiting until my skin become prune like then getting out.

Apparently this is not the case for all men, some can spend hours in the bathroom with scented candles, soaking in natural or medicinal salt's whilst applying revitalising cremes and lotions to every part of the body.

  • Soap
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Body Scrub
  • Deodorant
  • Exfoliating
  • Soakers
  • Natural
  • Organic
  • Bath Set's

Christmas was a time to get a set of soaps or smellies, these would usually never get opened but now with so much choice available Christmas and birthdays will never be the same.

Personal Care Tools and Accessories for Men

Have you ever wondered what to buy the man who has everything?

Men's grooming is big business and any one of these grooming set's would make an ideal gift:

  • Scissors
  • Shaving
  • Hair removal
  • Back Hair Remover
  • Nose Hair Remover
  • Nail Clippers
  • Tweezers
  • Razor
  • Combs and Brushes

A full range of state of the art men's grooming products is available at Amazon; why not find that special gift here:

Make Up and Cosmetics for Men

Not being a make up expert myself I would have assumed that men can wear the same make up as women, apparently it's not as simple as that.

Men's skin; from what I can gather is different to women's, therefore needs a specially formulated type of make up. In am not sure that this is a fact because I am sure that many men wear products designed for women.

Never the less there are a number of make up sets marketed to men and here is a small selection.

How to put make up on for men

Cosmetics for Men

This has been a slight tongue in cheek look at men's grooming products but it really is a serious business.

Billions of dollars change hands every year and the market is growing as demand increases.

Christmas and birthdays is an ideal time to buy that special man in your life something different so why not make a purchase today.

From a man's point of view I can see the interest in these products and it is liberating that men no longer feel embarrassed about taking care of themselves.
